The Story So Far...
I've always thought of my blog as one long continuous tale that grows in the telling, but I've just realised that, apart from the few saints who trawl through the archives to see everything I've posted, anyone reading this for the first time will have no idea what this blog is about.
The answer is simple: a new category with one entry, which I'll edit when I have something to add. This is now your one-stop-shop for the background to my blog.
Hi. I'm HappyJack. My name's not Jack, but I'm sometimes happy.
I had three problems: now I have two.
1) I'm in love with a girl (Ann). I've known her about five years. She's currently dating another friend of mine (Ben), who (although he is a nice guy) doesn't deserve her. To add more tragedy to the pot, my good friend (Carl) is also in love with her, and has been for over six years. She's his flatmate.
A while ago, I finally plucked up the courage to tell Carl, who (much to my surprise) -didn't- scream and rip my head off.
I've told Ann too. Much to my surprise, she didn't scream and rip my head off either. Neither did she give me the dreaded "Friend " speech. Of course, neither did she give me any encouragement.
2) About nine months ago, my parents split up. It was and is very messy. They split up over something so tiny, so easy to have avoided... But anyway, I feel that my father failed me. I learned how to be a man from watching him, and now I find he didn't know what he was doing.
Divorce is on the cards, although neither one of them has started proceedings. I think they're both hoping it won't be necessary: he's hoping she'll come back, and she's hoping he'll change. Neither of these scenarios is likely.
3) -This- is the problem I don't have any more: Shadow. For a while I developed a bit of an alternate personality, a real Devil's Advocate. I hated him, he hated me, but we needed each other... no, strike that. He made me -believe- I needed him.
He's gone now. He tried to push me too far. We fought, and I got lucky.
